Pay attention to the food you are eating

I think paying attention to what we eat is one of the most important things we can do and it often gets overlooked.

Our food not only affects our body in terms of nutrition but also affects all the other systems such as the nervous system.

Eating foods that support our nervous system can help to reduce anxiety. And viceversa.

The foods that help the nervous system:
-Herbal teas: such as chamomile, valerian or st John's wort. If you are under medication check with your doctor for interactions between herbs and meds.
-Adaptogens. Mushrooms like shiitake or Reishi. Roots like burdock.

The foods that hinder the nervous system:
-Things containing caffeine. That's right, coffee is a big NO. If you like it for the flavor drink decaf. If you need a bit of caffeine due to low blood pressure try something less high caffeine such as matcha.
-Things containing gluten, since it promotes inflammation in the body : pasta, bread, pizza and other foods containing wheat.
-Things high in sugar. Sugar at first feels good but when the crash from the sugar rush comes it feels even worse and then you need to get some more becoming a never ending cycle.
-Alcohol. At first it may seem like it helps you "forget" but it has been proven that alcohol can also lead to anxiety.
