Meditate
First things first, when I say meditate I don't mean "sit on a cushion with your legs crossed and think of nothing". Sure, you can do that too, but what I mean is something else.
There are many different kinds of meditations out there and my favorite ones are those that include some sort of visualization.
All you have to do is close your eyes and bring your focus to whatever it is you are visualizing in your mind's eye.
The purpose of meditating is to focus the mind on something other than the grief. This not only gives your brain a break but it also helps lower your anxiety levels.
There are many meditations and visualizations online that you can try.
Another alternative: take a piece of fruit, hold it in front of you and look at it for a few seconds. Then close your eyes and try to recreate it in your mind's eye with as much detail as possible.
