Do a hands on activity

By focusing your attention on doing something with your hands you are giving your brain a chance to relax. This can also help reduce your anxiety levels.

Depending on the activity you choose, there could be even more benefits. For example, if you do gardening then you will also receive sunshine which can help lift your mood. 

For me, baking is what works best. Carefully measuring ingredients and the sensation of the dough between my fingers has helped me relax countless times.

Also trying new recipes has had a similar effect.

Other hands on activities you could try are knitting, sewing, painting, sculpting or wood carving. 

Ask a friend to join you if you feel like that would be better for you. And if you don't like the activity you chose, then try a different one. Remember, always to be kind to yourself and to honor how you feel.
